Over the years we've watched CPN and
the people that have come in and out of our lives help define
who and what we are. The Unity, Knowledge and Empowerment that
come from this is the most profound realization to date. When
Vicki our California Regional Director come up with these key
words to describe CPN, the realization was overwhelming.
This month it is my desire to
describe Unity. Not just within the boundaries of CPN but in the
Special needs world. To help others have just a small taste of
what we experience with the gift God has given us in
Unity.
What does unity mean?
In
the Webster's dictionary it says: 1 a: the
quality or state of not being multiple : oneness
b
(1): a
definite amount taken as one or for which 1 is made to stand in
calculation <in a table of natural sines the
radius of the circle is regarded as unity>
(2): identity
element2
a: a
condition of harmony : accord
b: continuity
without deviation or change (as in purpose or action)3
a: the
quality or state of being made one : unification
b: a
combination or ordering of parts in a literary or artistic
production that constitutes a whole or promotes an undivided
total effect; also
: the resulting
singleness of effect or symmetry and consistency of style and
character4: a
totality of related parts : an entity
that is a complex or systematic whole5: any
of three principles of dramatic structure derived by French
classicists from Aristotle's Poetics and requiring a
play to have a single action represented as occurring in one
place and within one day6capitalized
: a 20th
century American religious movement that emphasizes spiritual
sources of health and prosperity
The
amazing thing is this. While definition 2 sticks out to me when
describing Unity in the special needs world. It just might mean
something slightly different to another. The sad thing is that
for the general population Unity in the relationship of special
needs would probably mean definition one a. This just isn't
quite true nor is it a complete definition of the word unity in
my opinion. Each person involved in the special needs
communities has their own unique needs, not everyone's situation
is the same. Because my child has Cerebral Palsy does not mean
my child is just like every other child. But it also doesn't
mean she shouldn't be given the same opportunities others have.
That is the unity among special needs. All are unique and
individual and that is what brings the unity or a condition of
harmony and accord.
We want
to hear from everyone whom reads this on your definition of the
word Unity. Please leave your thoughts here on our comment board. Please
keep in mind that we do remove any and all inappropriate
comments that do not keep our children safe and there is no
exception to that. Please keep the focus on Unity. Thanks for
sharing with us.
